After great improvement, there are varieties of
lead acid batteries all over the world, such as lead calcium batteries, lead antimony batteries, valve regulated lead acid batteries (VRLA), AGM absorbed glass mat battery, gel cell, SLI batteries (starting, lighting and ignition), and deep cycle batteries. And the lead acid battery have widely applications in many different industries, such as telecommunication, power systems, radio, and television systems, solar, UPS, electric vehicles, automobile, forklifts, emergency lights, etc.
The lead calcium batteries and lead antimony batteries modified the electrodes by the addition of Calcium and Antimony.
VRLA batteries are also called sealed lead acid batteries (SLA).This construction is designed to prevent electrolyte loss through evaporation, spillage and gassing and this in turn prolongs the life of the battery and eases maintenance. Instead of simple vent caps on the cells to let gas escape, VRLA have pressure valves that open only under extreme conditions.
AGM batteries are Used in VRLA batteries the Boron Silicate fibre glass mat which acts as the separator between the electrodes and absorbs the free electrolyte acting like a sponge. Its purpose is to promote recombination of the hydrogen and oxygen given off during the charging process. This construction is very robust and able to withstand severe shock and vibration and the cells will not leak even if the case is cracked. Nearly all AGM batteries are sealed valve regulated "VRLA".
Gel Cell is an alternative recombinant technology to also used in VRLA batteries to promote recombination of the gases produced during charging. It also reduces the possibility of spillage of the electrolyte. It is used for UPS applications.
SLI Batteries are the typical automotive battery application. Marine applications, golf buggies, fork lift trucks and electric vehicles use deep cycle batteries which are designed to be completely discharged before recharging. Automotive batteries will generally fail after 30-150 deep cycles if deep cycled, while they may last for thousands of cycles in normal starting use (2-5% discharge).
If batteries designed for deep cycling are used for automotive applications they must be "oversized" by about 20% to compensate for their lower current carrying capacity.

Automobile Battery: These batteries are used as the main energy source for starting, lighting and ignition, also called SLI batteries in vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractor, motorcycles, boats and aircraft.
Generic: used in portable tools and devices such as domestic alarm systems, emergency lights and solar power systems.
Industrial batteries: for stationary applications such as telecommunications, electrical power stations, uninterrupted power supplies or no-breaks, load leveling, alarm and security systems, general industrial use and starting of diesel motors.
Motive batteries: used to transport loads or people, such as fork lift trucks, golf carts, luggage transportation in airports, wheelchairs, electric cars and buses.
Special: those batteries used in specific scientific, medical or military applications, and those that are integrated in electric-electronic circuits.
Typically the lead acid battery is acted as SLI batteries and motive batteries. And these uses are very common in many areas. With the advanced technology, the future of lead acid batteries will become much better.
